Why I Built This Recipe Converter Tool

I didn’t build this because I’m good at baking — I built it because I’m not.

I’ve always been bad at baking.

Which is weird to say, because I’m actually a chef. I’ve worked in restaurants, and during service I was always solid — fast, organised, doing things properly under pressure.

But baking? Completely different story.

For some reason, I always struggled with it. Not even just the measurements — just trusting the process. When you’re baking, it always feels like everything is going wrong. Like it’s about to turn to shit.

But then… if you just trust it a little bit, it somehow comes together.

And I think that’s exactly why I decided to start baking more at home.

Why I Started Baking Again

My setup is not great.

Small kitchen.

Not a very good oven.

But I thought — I’ll just start simple. Bread.

And that’s a bit personal for me.

My grandpa was a baker.

My uncle is a baker.

I basically grew up around bakeries.

So going back to baking now feels like reconnecting with something.

The Thing That Really Annoyed Me

Most measurements? Fine.

Teaspoons — no problem.

Grams — perfect.

Cups — okay for liquids, flour, sugar.

But then…

“Half a cup of butter.”

What does that even mean?

Cold butter is solid. You can’t just pour it into a cup. If you soften it, it gets messy. It sticks. You don’t get everything out.

And baking is supposed to be precise.

So why are recipes making it harder?

So I Built Something For Myself

I got tired of:

Googling conversions every time

Switching tabs

Forgetting numbers

Getting inconsistent results

So I built a simple tool I could just open and use straight away:

What It Actually Does

You can convert a single ingredient or a full recipe.

The best part is you don’t have to convert everything the same way.

Some ingredients can go from cups to grams.

Others from ounces to grams.

You choose each one individually. If the Ingredient Isn’t there, there are already 50+ ingredients built in.

But if something is missing, you can still add it and get an approximate conversion.

So you’re never stuck.

Small Things That Make It Useful

Copy results straight to clipboard

Keep everything in one place

No need to jump back and forward

It just makes the whole process smoother.

Final Thought

I built this mainly for myself.

Because baking was frustrating me.

But I’ve used it a few times now, and it works every time. It actually makes things easier.

So yeah…

I genuinely hope other people find it useful too.
